Canadian Labels You Should Know

Every once in a while, a fashion designer or label comes along and turns an otherwise stale fashion season into a stylistic joy. While Italy, France and America boast their own world-renowned designer label staples, Canada is also home to many important designers in the fashion world.

Here are four such prodigies offered by our home and native land.

DSquared

The vision of Canadian twin brothers Dean and Dan Caten, DSquared prides itself on adding a refined flavor to casual wear unlike any other style on today’s runways. This unique take on men’s fashion has helped DSquared become a closet staple of such influential and trend-inspiring celebrities as Justin Timberlake and Lenny Kravitz. This fall, their look is all about mixing distressed denim, plush fabrics, structured jackets, and refined neckwear.

The look: DSquared is known for bringing a load of sex appeal to every outfit, and is specifically famous for its super low jeans, which manage to be ruggedly sexy and seductively sophisticated at the same time.

Rudsak

Established in 1994 by designer Evik Astoorian, Rudsak has quickly made its mark as Canada’s premier leather clothing designer. With a knack for mixing modern style with the luxury of leather, Rudsak clothing has become a favorite addition to the wardrobes of many modern Canadian men. When it comes to coats this fall, Rudsak incorporates fine fabrics with its signature leather detailing to give you the utmost in pure refinement and elegance.

The look: With jackets, clothing and accessories, the Rudsak collection can always be counted on to be refined and sophisticated. Well-structured garments with clean lines and urban finesse are complimented by the elegance of fine leather detailing.

Plain Jane Couture

Plain Jane Couture’s Montreal founders, Hardip Manku and Zoum, created the label as an homage to the untouchable gir- next-door every man covets, but can never attain. Their sexy -- yet highly recognizable -- symbol (a naked female silhouette with dropping panties) adorns every garment and serves as a reminder of this purpose. Check out Plain Jane's line of polo shirts that simultaneously scream sexy and prep school -- a juxtaposing, yet scandalously intriguing combination.

The look: Plain Jane Couture is all about casual weekend wear. T-shirts and polos with the Plain Jane logo not only spice up a man’s casual wear, but manage to project an air of confidence and sexiness onto every outfit he pulls together.

Second

Established in Montreal by designer Eric Wazana, Second prides itself on using the finest denim and fabrics available to create hard-hitting trends. Named after its promise that these jeans will fit you like a “second” skin, Second has quickly become a favorite label for the who’s-who of fashion.

The look: Second is all about distressed denim. With specialized detailing and different washes, each pair boasts a unique flavor and individual style. Regardless of a man’s pair of choice, Second guarantees that he’ll find the right denim style to compliment his everyday look and up the flair-ante of his casual wear.
